The Definitive Guide to Changi Experience Studio at Jewel Changi Airport + How to Get Tickets Cheap

April 12, 2021 by Bino 4 Comments

Changi Experience Studio is the newest attraction to open in Jewel Changi Airport. Located in the 4th floor of the mixed-use development near Lobby C, this first-of-its kind digital experience gives a glimpse of the world’s best airport in a way that is engaging and delightful to both children and adults.

Occupying a total floor space of 3,000 square meters, the Changi Experience Studio uses different types of technology to showcase various facets of Changi Airport. Experiences range from interactive arcade games, projection storytelling, immersive shows to gallery exhibits. As of this writing, the Changi Experience Studio has yet to open – it officially does on the 10th June 2019 – but I was invited over for a preview of the venue along with the Canopy Park one floor up.

Here is what you can expect from the new Changi Experience Studio at Jewel Changi Airport:

Table of Contents

  • Cloud
  • Time Tunnel
  • Hanging Garden
  • Amazing Runway
  • Sky Deck
  • Smile Challenge
  • Backstage
  • Arena
  • Garden of Harmony
  • Finale

Cloud

Visitors enter Changi Experience Studio through Cloud, a minimalistic space decked almost entirely in white. This venue serves to initiate the visitor on how to use the travel guide – essentially a blank booklet – that serves as a personal key in unlocking visual displays from the digital dioramas within the studio. It does so through whimsical virtual butterflies that become active once visitors hover their travel guide on the screen.

Time Tunnel

The next zone is the Time Tunnel – an avenue showcasing the historical milestones and evolution of the world’s best airport.

Hanging Garden

unlocking more digital experiences thru the travel guide

The lush indoor Hanging Garden comes next. This is again one of the zones where the “travel guide” booklet comes into play. There are seven stations located in this zone, each highlighting various operational aspects of Changi Airport – from airside operations, horticulture and the creation of the Changi experience for passengers. Visitors will need to flap open their travel guides and put it above the station’s surface in order for the digital screen to be displayed.

Amazing Runway

Lest you think you walked into a gym, the Amazing Runway with its array of exercise bikes actually aims to mimic the Changi Airport Race that occurred in 2009. For those who remember, the race was between a Porsche 911 GT3 Carrera Cup car and a Boeing 747. The simulation is displayed on the screen in front and up to 10 visitors can split themselves among 2 teams to pedal as hard as they can to prove just exactly which mode of transport is faster on the runway.

Sky Deck

The Sky Deck is designed like an airport control room, with several screens projecting various flight paths and the routes that are being flown out of Singapore. This was a popular place for Instagram shots at the time of my visit, and I imagine this area getting busy when it finally opens with plenty of selfies.

Smile Challenge

Think you can smile as well as a Changi Airport staff? Measure it up at the Smile Challenge. Photos of smiling visitors will be snapped and scored by a machine. The top 10 best smiles are immortalized by the wall in the hall of fame.

Backstage

The green wall which is called Backstage serves as a backdrop for plenty of selfie or wefie shots against various Changi Airport related backgrounds. The shots can then be printed for a fee at kiosks near the exit.

Arena

taxi allocation game

I foresee this to be the busiest area in Changi Experience Studio when it opens. The Arena creatively takes several mundane airport tasks such as steering airport trolleys or coordinating taxi queues into playable arcade games. I thought the airport trolley game was especially funny – visitors use an actual trolley handle as controls when playing.

Garden of Harmony

The Garden of Harmony is inspired by the many garden setups in Changi Airport. Here, visitors can take a stroll around a virtual meadow and follow butterflies through a field of petals. The “travel guide” booklet is again needed here to unlock some cool digital features such as the playing of musical instruments for an audio and visual spectacle.

Finale

Guests then end their visit at the Finale. It’s a multimedia room with a video of how Changi Airport started and what it’s like in the present day. It also provides glimpses into the future with a vision of a garden in space – Changi’s future vision perhaps?

Tips for Changi Experience Studio

Hi would like to know what technology is used for the projection of images on the visitors card? It was Ery interesting to see the special effects too.

Been already 3 times to Singapore but never managed to go in the green area and waterfall zone – first time had no idea where it was and second time had to depart from a different terminal. Next time I want miss it would add the Changi Experience Studio on the to do list!
