List of Hotels in Singapore With Free Minibar

April 11, 2022 by Bino Leave a Comment

Make what you will about hotel minibars but there is no denying that having a selection of goodies and drinks in the comfort of one’s room, especially if it’s free, still brings a sense of delight (and convenience) to guests. In Singapore, a number of hotels take the notion of a standard minibar one notch higher by making it a free inclusion in the room. Here, I try to list out those hotels that provide this amenity, including my own experiences of the same. Surprisingly, this amenity is found across different tiers of lodging in Singapore – not just in luxury hotels but even in boutique hotels.

If you know of other Singapore hotels not listed here with free minibar, do let me know in the comments below!

Hotel Staycation Review: Hilton Singapore Orchard & The Largest Hilton in Asia-Pacific

March 31, 2022 by Bino Leave a Comment

Taking over the former space of Mandarin Orchard Hotel, Hilton Singapore Orchard opened in February 2022 with 1,080 rooms – making it the largest Hilton property in Asia-Pacific. The hotel also occupies an enviable location, right in the heart of Orchard Road and with many of Singapore’s iconic shopping malls within 300 meters from the property.

Hilton Singapore Orchard (not to be mistaken with the now defunct Hilton Singapore and present day voco Orchard Singapore) was renovated almost completely, save for minor details like the lift, marbled walls in the lobby as well as certain parts of the swimming pool. The hotel now boasts of a modern contemporary design filled with muted colors as well as a botanical theme made with subtle references.

A few weeks after the hotel opened, I managed to drop by for a stay. It was my first hotel stay in the Orchard area in quite some time.

There are a few access points to the hotel. The first is from a receiving area from behind Mandarin Gallery while the other is through a lift right by the entrance of Mandarin Gallery itself. The main lobby of the hotel is on the 5th floor and this is where a number of the inhouse restaurants such as Estate, Ginger.Lily and Chatterbox are located as well.

Hotel Staycation Review: The Vagabond Club Singapore, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel

February 8, 2022 by Bino Leave a Comment

the vagabond club, a tribute portfolio hotel lobby

Despite being an unassuming small boutique hotel from the outside, The Vagabond Club, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel is the type of property that you cannot help but pay attention to. While Singapore has no shortage of lodging options in this category, this property located at Syed Alwi Road is just… different. Perhaps it’s due to the gold elephant gracing the hotel lobby. Or the bar flanked by a brass monkey and banyan tree. Whatever it is, the images here create the impression of being in a far more glamorous time. Like a cross between Great Gatsby and a museum. When I first heard about this property, I told myself that I just had to check it out one day.

The hotel also a bar called Whiskey Library which is fully owned by the hotel. It’s notable for having a statue of a brass monkey as well as an atmospheric art installation of a banyan tree. The bar has over 1,000 different kinds of whiskey within its vaults and the hotel offers membership to whiskey lovers with preferential pricing for whiskey bottles, usage of the vaults for keeping the bottles as well as free nights in the hotel.

Hotel Review: InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay – Luxurious Residential-Style Living

January 24, 2022 by Bino 1 Comment

InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay opened in October 2017 after taking over from the old Gallery Hotel in the same site by the Singapore River. Unlike its Peranakan-influenced sister hotel in Bugis, the newer InterContinental hotel – and the second of the brand in Singapore – carries a pronounced residential-inspired concept in keeping with the expat-oriented neighborhood surrounding it. This particular InterContinental hotel is only 10 floors high and was designed by the award-winning firm, SCDA.

Along with the gradual reopening of some IHG hotels in Singapore, the property also reopened in December 2021 after nearly 2 years of being a quarantine hotel.

Hotel Staycation Review: Mandarin Oriental Singapore – One of the Best Hotel Swimming Pools in Singapore

December 14, 2021 by Bino 1 Comment

Mandarin Oriental Singapore ranks among my most frequently stayed hotels in Singapore. Time and time again, the property launches creatively packaged staycation deals that defines what it means to be “a tourist in your own city.” Coupled with the hotel’s renowned hospitality and level of luxury, their staycation packages tend to come with inclusions that appeal to a wide demographic – whether it be families, couples or friends enjoying a weekend getaway.

This review is an amalgamation of my various staycations at the Mandarin Oriental Singapore. There are only so many ways one can do a package out of a hotel staycation but Mandarin Oriental Singapore seems to nail it every time and I always look forward to my stays here.

The hotel was built in the 1980s with the design coming from John Portman. Entering the lobby, one gets mesmerized by the cavernous atrium. As the brand name suggests, the decor is very much in keeping with the chain – think lots of Chinese figurines, dark and warm tones as well as long chandeliers.

Guide to Accor Plus – Is It Worth Signing Up For This Membership Programme?

October 11, 2021 by Bino 1 Comment

Accor Plus is a membership programme run by Accor – the same group behind iconic hotel chains such as Sofitel, Raffles, Fairmont, Novotel, Mercure and ibis. As one of the largest hotel chains in the world, the group manages thousands of hotels worldwide, from the ultra-luxurious to budget-friendly options.

Note: If you stumbled upon this article due to the new DBS Vantage Card, check out my review of the card here

The Accor Plus programme is essentially a paid membership where members get to enjoy perks such as complimentary hotel nights, discounts for room bookings, an upgraded loyalty programme membership tier as well as up to 50% off on dining at the hotels’ restaurants.

Membership to the Accor Plus programme essentially comes in three tiers. The first is the Traveller tier (S$298), followed by the Explorer tier (S$408) and the highest one is Explorer Plus (S$528). The difference between these three tiers is the number of complimentary nights that comes with the membership, this being 0, 1 and 2 nights respectively.

Hotel Review: Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy (Business Suite) – Rooms With Singapore Strait View

August 26, 2021 by Bino 1 Comment

The Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy is an Accor hotel located in the culturally rich Katong area of Singapore. Popular among transit passengers for its proximity and free shuttle to Changi Airport, it has also made a name for itself in the local staycation scene due to the “being away from it all” vibe that the property gives off. A few blocks to the south is East Coast Park while a block north are the Peranakan shophouses and eateries of Katong.

Hotel Staycation Review: Sofitel Singapore City Centre – Simply Magnifique!

August 22, 2021 by Bino 2 Comments

Sofitel Singapore City Centre is the newest jewel in Accor Hotels’ crown in Singapore – being its 13th hotel in the Lion City and the 800th Accor hotel in Asia Pacific. Looming over the historic shophouses of Tanjong Pagar, the property marks the further southern development of Singapore’s CBD. Tanjong Pagar has always been known as a commercial area but in recent years, high rises (including Singapore’s tallest), luxury hotels and some Grade A offices have been thrown into the mix.

I was fortunate to go for a staycation at the Sofitel Singapore City Centre a couple of times, the first time being two days before the hotel officially opened.
